So as you got from our title, we are going to talk about the mystical world of witches and warlocks.

We have real lives and like eventually it'd be great to just do this, but also we have things we have to do, the things that are important. Like, I don't know, work can make a paycheck. OK, so witches and warlocks, they have always I got my these listen.

3:27 So if you're not watching, I have this long black hair and I'm not used to long black hair and it gets caught in my mouth. So I feel for all you women that just have long hair in your face all day. I don't know how you do it. Well. We do it. We just do it, Yeah. OK. So yeah. Which is in Warlock. So people have been fascinated by them and feared by them all through humanity and really that kind of understand their their world. I'm gonna really dig into a lot of myths and legends and a lot of the stuff that you would really have to dig in anyway to to kind of get this information.

4:09 And we're gonna talk about the misconceptions too. So now, while it may be obvious to most people listening, I do think it's important to say that witches and warlocks are not the Hollywood creatures that we all see. Remember when in our voodoo episode talking about Vodu and what it really meant and how we've made Voodoo something that it's not? Really. We've bastardized bastardized it. Same with witches and warlocks. So the legends in these people's imaginations have really, you know, made it witches and warlocks, what we think of them today.

4:49 And there were and there still are, by the way, practitioners of these practices and these ancient practices that happened today. But most of them are around like herbs and healing and kind of the hidden forces, the energies of the universe, which I truly believe in. But that's kind of what many of the witches and warlocks today practice, and what they have always practiced. Now, witches and warlocks have existed across all cultures and across all centuries, and witches generally refer to wise women who are helping their community generally through knowledge. And warlocks, a term that's actually less frequently used, refers to the male practitioners. Now both were very feared during the witch hunts of of the Middle Ages, which we're gonna dive into in a little bit, which we all know very, very dark chapter in history, and that is completely fuelled by ignorance and superstition. Oh yeah, absolutely.

5:57 OK, so just as I had glazed over a minute ago, warlock is the common definition for the male witch, right? And the real origin of the word they believe comes from an old English word called war. Loga which comes from the word war, which means promise or agreement, and loga which means deceiver. Now this translate in really ultimately translates to oathbreaker or liar or traitor, and the term is believed really to apply specifically around the devil in the 11th century when they were making promises kind of to the devil. Oh, OK.

6:41 Gotcha. Now around the 12th or 13th century kind of in in early modern Scots which is the language spoken in Scotland, right? And and upper Island actually they used the word which now invoked to Warlock, to describe men who they believed had made a pact to old horny, which is the devil. Old Horny, Old horny. Wait. Who calls it old Horny? No Auld Auld horny HORN i.e. Auld Lang zai, not old horny. Who calls it old Horny?

Good old old Horny. And so these guys that had made a pact with old horny and they they've thus betrayed the Christian faith and broke their baptismal vows and oaths. So hence oathbreaker. Hence war logo, war logo which turned into warlock.

8:04 Right. OK. That makes sense. OK, now, most victims of the witch trials in early modern Scotland, they were well, they were mostly women. But there were some men that were executed as warlocks as well, and this term is that then became synonymous with witches which were female and warlocks which were male. That's that's the origin of the of the term. Now Speaking of warlocks, one of the first documented warlocks was a man by the name of Thomas Weir. And I'm gonna tell you this story for no other reason than it is just good folklore legend tale. And honestly, it is not informative at all, but completely fucking entertaining.

Thomas Weir WIER OK, so now Thomas Weir was born in 1599 in Scotland, and he was a descendant of one of these very powerful families in the country and they were called the Weir of Verdes Weir de Verdes. And he was the son of Lord Kington, I think was his name. And Lady Jean Somerville was his mother. And they, by the way, his mother claimed to possess clairvoyant powers. Oh, we like her now because she was, so, what's the word like upper class and so well known she wasn't just, like, burned at the stake. As well, right?

Now by this time he's living with his sister who they all called Grizzle was his sister's name. And following retirement we're gets Thomas gets sick. This is like 18 Sorry 1670 and from his bed he starts to confess this secret life that he's been living this whole entire time.

And so now Weir's in his 70s and he's still like, you know, he's starting to talk about some weird shit. And they bring Hazel into a different room and she's like, saying the same shit. And so they're like, OK, like maybe this is like.

And he is, he's saying the same stuff. And Grizzle says that Thomas got his power from his walking stick that he had, which on the top of it was a carved human skull. What? And she said that. What she Yep. So she So she said that's this is what gives him his power. And he's like saying this too.

Not really, I haven't. Really.

He could have, he could have said nothing and I'm sure he would have still been tried for something because the motherfucker is looks like a walking murderer he had. And so he had told like friends and his sister about this. And on this day this thing's gonna end. And it did end.

And so, so, so then there's no extreme details of what they did other than doing shenanigan crazy things to the homeless. Coaxing the guy into the carriage. The sister says she doesn't know what happened to him, but.

So while they're waiting execution, they're confined to this former leper colony in greenside below this place called Carlton Hill. And that is where Weir was basically hung, strangled and burned at the stake. They want to make sure that fucker.

So then they take his walking cane, made of thornwood and skulls, and they throw it into the flames. And it's reported that that it made the fire behave oddly. And there was strange whirling in the fire and exaggerated movements once the cane was, you know, being engulfed with its master. Probably because they're all fucked up on opium or something. And like, honestly, there's probably like some cocaine or something.

Fucking called it. You did call it. You can't write this shit up. Oh no, no, no. It has been written multiple times. It has happened multiple times. We keep on seeing iterations of this shit. Like, what is the fascination with fucking your sister like? It's so weird.

So in discussing witchcraft, I want to remind people that is essential. I just wanna approach it with respect because yeah, there are still people that are Wiccans. They practice witchcraft, and I don't wanna offend anybody. I just want people to know that witchcraft encompasses all kinds of rituals and beliefs and traditions, and we're just gonna talk about some.

23:36 It's not like we're not stereotyping, we're just talking about some. Yeah, look. Yeah, I think it's a good. It's a good thing to to, to give some, you know. Yeah. Some kind of context. Yeah. But also like you don't have all the time in the world to talk about all the different types of. Yeah, yeah, no, just a brief overview that's. Yeah. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah. I don't think it's offensive. OK, great, so now witchcraft is not a monolithic practice. It varies greatly depending on culture, geographical location, historical factors and some well known traditions are Wicca, Druidry, Hoodoo, Traditional Witchcraft, and like I had mentioned before, a lot of witchcraft just focuses on, you know, connections and earth and cycles and moons and.

24:28 Very natural, very natural. Exactly very natural. Sacred. Drawing. Inspiration from natural elements. Yeah. Herbs, animals, Right. Moons. Totally, yeah. And it can be a very spiritual thing for practitioners and some worship deities while others focus on ancestor variations of worship or nature, spirits or all kinds of things. Some witches practice alone, others parts a part of a coven, which I would have to be part of a coven. Would you? You wouldn't be a sole practitioner? No, no.

25:09 OK, and these communities offer support and mentorship and opportunities, group ritual celebrations, just like any kind of community community. Many witches adhere to ethical guidelines such as the Wiccan Reed, and it part in part states, and it harm none. Do what ye will. Which emphasizes importance really, of just being responsible, ethical. Yeah. Don't. Yeah. Don't hurt anyone. Don't be a Dick. Yeah, exactly. But as I mentioned, ethical beliefs can vary. Totally.

25:52 So as we know, witchcraft has been misunderstood Sigma ties throughout history. The witch hunts of the past that led to prosecution of a lot of innocent people, primarily women who were accused of witchcraft. And then of course there are till still misconceptions and stereotypes when anytime you hear the word witch you you don't think of a nice holistic person. No, you don't. No, you just don't. You think of like a haggard, haggard, evil. Yeah, yeah. Menacing. Menacing, exactly. So witchcraft encompasses a lot of practices in rituals. And so I just wanted to give you some examples of some elements and practices associated with witchcraft.

26:35 Yes. So the one that we're all familiar with is spell casting. And this is a fundamental aspect of witchcraft. And witches and warlocks can cast spells for all kinds of purposes, and they can do it for things like protection. They can do it for things like healing and love and money, prosperity, all that stuff. Have you seen those like candle ones? The candle rituals like on Tiktok? I haven't actually seen one. Yeah, you can watch them. And people will. It's witches who will help with protecting. Oh yeah, and they have like 2 candles. And it's like they're bound with string. And like, the string will like based on the situation, like they put like salt around the person to protect them, to try to get like the the hold that the person has on them off. OK, Isn't that cool?

Telling the future or something.

28:58 It's to gain insight into the future. Yes, seek guidance. Higher powers, yes, yes, yes. Common methods of that are tarot cards. Tarot cards. We've done that. Astrology. Pendulum drowsing, scrying. We've talked about using a crystal ball, like and stuff. Then there's herbalism. A lot of witches think that. Herbs have a lot of power. Again, 'cause it's based from Earth and nature. I've known herbal witches. Yeah, the kids. So they can create potions and bruise and thermal remedies. Yeah, medicines and stuff.

29:38 Candle magic, like we just talked about before. Different candles are used to represent different in intentions or people's signs and things of that nature. And then of course, there's Sabbats and espets. You know they celebrate cycles of the moon and the change in seasons of rituals through Sabbats and. What is a Sabbat Savit is like? I don't know how to define it, but have you ever heard of I think the? Jews Sabbath, Sabbath, like a SAB. It's. But I think it has something to do with time of year. I think I thought like this because it had well, I know. Oh my God, your teeth are. Falling out because what what this is related to is seasonal celebrations and lunar celebrations.

30:24 Oh, OK. I don't know. Calendar. Yeah. Maybe. Makes sense, Yeah. Then of course there's alters. You know they'll have personal alters or community altars. They put objects and crystals and statues of deities and, you know, candles, that kind of stuff. There's the invocation of deities. So they invoke and work with deities or specific gods or goddesses in their practices. There's protection and warding like a warding, and they employ protective spells and rituals to ward off negative energies or hexes or harmful energies. There's ancestor variation veneration, which which is honor their ancestors and seek guidance from ancestors. There's energy work, kind of like chakra stuff if you're familiar with chakras.

31:21 There's what's called kitchen witchcraft, which they just use like everyday cooking and food with magical intention. Oh, OK, interesting. And then dream magic, where witches explore dream work and lucid dreaming and divination as we're talking about, or spiritual exploration, that kind of stuff. So not all witches practice everything. It's very specialized and they can just very wildly. Well, it's kind of like denominations like in in different religions, so like a perfect example. Like Christianity, You have Catholicism, you have Lutheran's, you have Presbyterians, you have all these different, like, versions of, you know, similar things, but you have specialties or things that you believe in a little bit stronger than others.

32:13 Yes. So that, I mean, that totally makes sense. And I think it would make sense where you would, yeah, pick and choose what would work. Work best for something. Maybe you're maybe you're more into herbs like I've known some herbal witches and I'll tell you what like I've had like issues and they've helped me like with I mean dry herbs and ocean and stuff like that. And I've I've, I don't know I've any witch I've ever met. I've loved. But we're in Colorado. There's a lot of, like, mountain medicine woman, earthy, herbal witches. And they've always been great.

We would go on walks with this herbal witch and she would be like, oh, you have this. Mash that up in your teeth and rub it on your skin. I'm like, that's pretty fucking cool, you know? And like she was like super chill and you know, sweet kind but like to smoke weed and like, you know, whatever, just do her own thing. I I I think that there's like such a freaking bad rap on on Witches, but without question. It makes sense. Guess what? Whole Foods, all that shit in the fucking body section and stuff, those motherfuckers are are basically that was created by an herbal witch, OK?

Now people are going to Whole Foods like oh fuck witchcraft, you're like bitch, you fucking, you do things. Anyway, sorry. So the other thing I found interesting when I was attending to research this was that there are many, what I will say male witches. Warlocks don't like to be called warlocks. They want to be called witches, and the reason is is because warlock has such a bad connotation as I described earlier oathbreaker, liar, deceiver. And so they don't want to be known as that, which is really unfortunate, 'cause I like, I think the term is cool. Like you have a witch and a warlock. You have, you know, male and female. Like, I think it's cool, I think. But of course I'm not in the culture and I don't. You know, it's easy to say outside looking in, but I don't know.

And I can tell you what they are if you want to know what these seven Wonders are. Now the seven Wonders are what the the the Primo Divino witch. Only the Primo Divino witch can do these things. Oh, OK, And so telekinesis is moving objects. Concilium is control of the mind, controlling somebody else's mind, somebody else's mind. A divination is seeing thoughts and objects with the mind. Transmutation is transporting yourself through space and time. Oh, I wanna get that one.

The Cynthium, which is descent into the netherworld of the afterlife. That one is and bad. No, that's a no. No. Let's be like going to hell for a hot minute. Yeah. And you can drink it, You can put it in your food, you can bathe in it, You can make your. There's other spells and potions in here that require moon water. And so moon water is water that is literally bathed from the moon, and you just. But you can't make it within a lunar eclipse. This is like the rule, like you cannot do that. It's. Like a no, no, it makes it that. No, no, yeah, you can. It's obviously most potent with the full moon, and so the ingredients are just water of any kind. And then you put that water in a container and then you can put like crystals in it too, depending on what you want to do.

39:22 But it's just water that's just clean water. And so you put the water in the container, and then you put that container where it will be in direct illumination of the moon. And then you say this. I won't read it, but you'll see. You say this and then you leave it in the moon as long as possible, but you have to take it out before the moon sets. Without the moon and grab it the next one and then you store it in dark cool place and you can just keep recharging it and charging and charging and make it more and more important as long potent as long as you keep doing this And so yeah, the idea is that this moon water is just you know they say the moon has.
