Have you heard at all of the Cabaret culture in Japan does It have anything to do with the sugar. I can't think of the word is really cute. The girls women in the white faces. Hmm.

So it really kind of bears like the Cabaret culture and that the whole thing Japan really Bears some digging into because it's so different from what we know of clubs or cabarets here to be. So, like, clubs here, it's like dancing or like Cabaret. Like you might see someone singing dancing on stage ball blah. I'm going to try like I said before to pronounce these Japanese names. Yeah, I have consulted some friends who lived in Japan. Hmm. I tried to phonetically spell it out on my notes because they tell you how it sounds. You know what you should have told me to do what I could have recorded.

Fuck it just Cabaret but girl and and they also use like a perfect. Like, there's a professional term, that's not just like cowboy girl, maybe, Cabaret woman of a second.

4:44 So ultimately, these are clubs where men will pay to spend time with a woman. These women work for the club and their job is to provide like a like a 10 of companionship. Okay, not sexually right? Just emotional conversational therapeutic. And the upcharge these customers for Drinks. That's how they make money. But so, they have to stay in this location with the girls. Yes. It's like a club than current these guys go to. Yeah. And they selected or a girl selected for them, kind of. Yeah. And these girls provide like emotional, almost like a like a girlfriend or something. Like a contrarian. Yeah.

So these women will light a dude cigarettes. If he's smoking the light, their cigarettes, they'll sing or entertain the person like through karaoke, right? They know, all of the things to do to make the guy feel great Paschal. Yeah, yeah. So the really, the idea is that the customers buying drinks, which they are purchasing really these This Woman's a woman's companionship. So within the Cabaret culture, there are a lot of genres of different types of Cavern cabarets. So we'll talk a little bit about each of. Those are a few of them but you name it. There's a fucking genre for it, okay? Oh, you want a princess club like Cabaret? Like whatever you can go and find a princess, like, specifically princess one.

6:17 So the mainstream clubs that, that these Cabaret clubs are are no touchy, okay? No, touchy row, sexual, no touching zero touching zero touching. You cannot touch your Hostess. Okay, the moment that this happens, the guests, Customer is like, kicked out. So when a Patron goes into a club there sat down into a private area so you're not with like audit table with a bunch of other people. It's like you're in a little alcove which like you have this, you can have your own personal time and you feel like it's just you and, and the club itself actually selects a Hostess, that'll be the best for them like emotionally like a good, you know, matchup.

The one you like You could request the one that you like not necessary that you're going to get it unless you're a consistent, you know? Customer. Yeah. However, like you'll be okay. What are you in the mood for? Oh, I've had like a really bad day. I want a party girl or like, oh, you know, I just want someone who's like, pretending like they're in love with me. Like I want to let you know, like, you can choose your adventure kind of thing. Yes, this is and they provide it. So like I said, there are clubs like this for everything, for instance, a snack bar. So, the snack bar is or Some snacks for short. It's a kind of Hostess bar that serves alcohol for sure, and an employee's female staffer, paid to serve and flirt with the male customers.

7:46 They do not necessarily change a charge an entry fee, and they often don't have like, set menus on our asset prices on their menu. So it's kind of negotiable or like the girl will tell them how much it is, so they'll be able to charge or whatever. So there's like a base fee to do the Perience typically for clubs. Yeah. And then there are the girls will ultimately try to upsell to bio some product whatever. Like I made like bottle service or you know this kind of specific drink or whatever. Yeah. Like they have like champagne like you know or like shots and stuff like that. So okay. So they usually like either have an arbitrary charge or a charge.

8:27 They charge a set hourly fee plus that bottle charge. So like, okay, so you're coming in, you're paying Hourly fee, and you have to buy a bottle of something time. And so, the customers would purchase that and their own name and it's kept for like, future visits. Like some kind of like, weird rule that they have. Now, we have a red light version of it, right? So I have a sex version. Yes. So they're allowed to well, sexual occasion, guests are allowed to touch their Hostess above the waist, okay? And they can talk about kissing, talk about not. Necessarily kissing. So they can touch with their hands not with their mouth. Yes, Yes, gotcha.

9:11 Now, these are those, these kinds of clubs exist. Like I said, there's a pick your own poison kind of club for everyone. These are not the norm. The norm is more of the emotional, like, you know. No, touchy. Mmm. Yeah, yeah. And so there's a female version there's also a male version called host clubs. So it's really the male equivalent. So the first time I actually ever heard of a host club was in this documentary called the Great happiness space, which I will have in our show notes. So the, they mainly cater to women. But again, there's something for everyone and, you know, gay, Host Club clubs exist and the same rules apply to them. Um so really these men are kind of like selling the idea of a boyfriend.

You're spending like thousands of dollars on these bottles and stuff like that. Oh my God, it's very, very pricey. So who can afford that? Well you have like business. Okay. Could you starting her up? Could you go a could you pay the base fee? Hmm turnabout's. Yeah and get the experience without buying all the junk.

They're not there to just be your friend or like to be your boyfriend or your girlfriend because I'm sure they probably get money. They get a cut from it. Yeah. Yeah. And they move up the ranks in like the host like you know Stratosphere so it's like you know, each Host Club has like you know, their top hosts, who get a different, you know. Sure fee they make more money. Yeah. And you want to be on top? Yeah. Because you're going to get the good clients. Get the good clients. You get you, you get all the money, you got more money, right? Okay. So, so like you could go in and buy The base.

So host clubs versus Hostess clubs, they the customer actually chooses the host, so they can choose, which, man, they're wanting very different from the hostess counterparts, right? Like the hostess clubs, like they kind of tell the men like, okay, this is Like what you're gonna get? You want that, what you're saying that? If it's a, if it's women going to get a man experience, they get to pick. But if it's a man going to see a woman, they will give you what you get.

But like they're gonna go see a woman. The you don't get to choose not necessarily unless You've been like a regular. Yeah, exactly. Then you can have her class inch. Where is that? Do you think honestly? Because I I think men are will put up with it and women are choosier. If you're asking me, I wonder if the if the gay host clubs are like that. So, okay, so the customer chooses, the host, the men actively flirt with the female customer, or the male customer and they'll touch them flirtatiously. So like okay, like away now.

Pull back from the documentary experience that I had. As far as this question goes can they can these hosts like eventually like fuck their clients? Yes. But like what the hosts were saying in this documentary was the moment, I fuck them. Then they get what they want and they're not interested anymore. Oh my God right? Which makes someone they won't come back. Do not going to come back. Yeah they're not going to come back. Oh shite. Right. Yeah, so so like it's more of like a build-up sure that relationship makes sense, totally makes sense.

So do the, can the women can the hostess touch the men? The women? Can they touch the men? Can the hostess clubs? Oh hostesses touch. The clients. The idea is like there is no touching. I'm sure. Said the host can touch the clients? Yes, yes. But I'm just wondering, I'm trying to get the dynamic. Yeah, so I think with, with the female hostesses versus the man, it's like, it's totally not supposed to be at all sexual. It's our, I mean, it's supposed to be, it's a different standard. It's a more intimate.

15:21 Like emotionally intimate thing, not physically, intimate the women looking for them, but the host club is more physical than the hostess club. Yes, it sounds like, well, because think about it. I work at least because they wanted to go more aggressive. Yeah, I want him to touch you. You want them to become more and more girls, to be more demure? And yeah, like, oh no, like I'm a, I'm a shrinking violet, whatever, like, that's like, that's like a duck. Second legs. Okay, I got it. So, okay, so they is. So one thing that I found which was really interesting about, like host clubs in that documentary, the people who go to these host clubs are primarily, like, prostitutes who are going to find like a an emotional connection because all they have are sexual encounters.

But then they get to choose the the interaction they have with a man, right? Whereas men are choosing the interactions that they're having with these women and seeing them just specifically as a, as a physical specimen rather than an emotional one fascinating. Yes yes if you and I are in Japan and we're like weird we just want to see what the fuck this phenomenon is like that different. A different.

Yeah, you're right. And the other thing I have to remember, is that again, we're talking a different culture, so different. The Japanese culture is very, very different than the American culture. It's really different. They also have like it's a, it's a huge city, right? Like you have these huge massive cities where you're just like another aunt, You know. Yeah. Like walking around you don't feel very special like and there are like, some really strict social rules, but you can't, it's hard.

It's kind of like an emotional prostitute. Yeah. Hmm. Yeah, that's what kind of right. That's why I feel it would be fascinating. That's why I want to try it out but I'd be worried Roy would be feel like that you're cheating again. Go again that emotional thing. I really do feel like he would feel that way and so I obviously have to respect that but I just think I'd be fascinating. Yeah, I would be and I'd be like, I just want to experience all the things and like, see what that's like. That's fucking crazy, right?

That being said, the demand for foreign workers is pretty fucking high and pure and workers meaning working the host of the hostess clubs but not Japan Japanese. Yeah. So like you'll have like an Australian host or Hostess and that demand is high. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. Italy. So you have, you'll have these people will come in illegally to work in Japan. You have a nice-looking face so you have an accent people are willing to pay you know 20 bucks the equivalent of 20 bucks to buy a fucking alcoholic beverage.

Great perfect. So you know I think In saying that the obvious statement is like, of course, these places can be CD and have questionable. Seriously, I'm sure some of them are real, some of them can be really seedy, I would imagine. Absolutely. You know, they're, you know, placing these people and who work there in debt or straight up, not being fair with the money that the workers are bringing in. So like, sometimes like, these people will have to actually purchase their drinks ahead of time and hopefully they get the clientele and to buy the drinks to buy him back.

Her mom actually ran a brothel when she was a child out of their home. And then in 1966, she was 18 years old and she and her boyfriend live-in boyfriend at the time needed some cash and they decided to rob the home of a notorious tax collector because of this.

Now, the Matsuyama prison incident, was something that happened back in the 60s and basically, the guards were paying were being paid off by prisoner gang members like Yakuza which is like a game gang in Japan to basically run the facility so they were they were making. They could do anything that they want in this facility they were smoking. Saying they were gambling. Sure. They were doing drugs like and anything they wanted. They had keys to the prison. These girls God. Yeah. And so what they did with those keys was going to the female section and rape, the female prisoners. What.

25:33 Yeah, so these gang members had run and and they did that and it was later looked into like tried, but there was a statute of limitations ran out. And those who were responsible of for this were unable to be charged. So yeah. Kazuko is one of those female praise prisoners. That were raped. Good. And for showing. Yeah, she was fucking literally imprisoned was raped. And what are you supposed to fucking do? So, let me just digress for a second and tell you that my worst fear in my life is being convicted of something.

It's so out of control and then you this happens in the US by the way, to? Yeah. I mean, I don't, I don't know that it's to that extreme but these prisoners can control. These prisons. Prisoners can control the prison's? Yes. Yeah. They're they're being like a lot of the guards and stuff are bought off. Yeah, very corrupt. These are, we have to remember, like, at least in the United States. Our prison systems are are privately funded.

God god-awful soap or kazuko like, you know, was one of those, you know, feel more prisoners that were that was raped and you know, it's pretty clear that her life was far from glamorous, right? So in 1982, she was 34 and she found herself married with four children and in a great amount of debt we're talking about like a thirty thousand dollars and that was a lot of nothing idea. So she's Working in Matsuyama city. As a hostess at a cabaret to try to like kind of recoup, some of those losses and the kapre work was good because she really enjoyed drinking, which yes, my girl, we agree.

She had a really awful life, you know, so of course, like, hey, you have some dudes paying attention to you and like, You know, drinking all day. Like, that's my job. Okay, fine. Yeah, so unfortunately, it just wasn't enough to pay her creditors who are knocking down her door, okay. So you know, you think about it, you have a bunch of attractive younger women who are vying for male attention and money attention equals money. At that point. There's a kind of hierarchy and these host Hostess clubs so the women who are more experienced and or beautiful are at the top, Top. Okay, so this is this kind of like working environment. I don't know.

So it's like, you know, you have it breeds competition, it breeds jealousy and then you mix that with a lot of money, danger always follows no matter what. So the top woman at this club and Matsuyama city was atsuko, Kazuki Korra Once again, still sounded pretty good. Thank you. I don't know if it's correct, but atsuko. So I tried finding a little bit more information about her, but there really wasn't a lot that I could get in English. What little I did find out, I had to run through like Google Translate from Japanese to English.

29:19 So ultimately, you know, she was incredibly successful, but this was back in 1982 before the internet. So we don't have a ton of information about her beautiful shoes. Successful. Made great money. And comparison is the thief of Joy, but Envy is really a fucking monster. And so, you have katsu Co which I'm certain. She's looking at itsuko and she's like, oh my God, this girl doesn't have like children. She doesn't have these like creditors. Banging down her door, you know? I just wish I could be like her. She's confident all these things, you know, seemingly Carefree painless like, you know, confident she doesn't have like this fucking, you know, prison in something. Incident that she went through, she does have a parent who like basically ran a brothel out of our fucking house. Like, you know, she doesn't have these debtor debtors calling and so in August 19th 1982 because you go is that at zucco's apartment and although the reason that they were hanging out, I'm not able to find.

30:22 But what I do know is that it's zucco's life was taken and it cuts ago had strangled her. So this was actually the quote In the Tokyo reporter article that I have Linked In Our show notes. So it says after the crime, she took cash and more than 300 items including furniture and a bank book. Worth a total of around nine point, five million yen. Police later said that the motive for the crime was the repayment of debt to Consumer Finance companies. So it sounds like that's a shitload of money, right? But it's really with inflation, I calculated it, it's about about a hundred thousand dollars today. So, they're saying she did all of that so that she could repay her debtor yet out of debt.

I've honestly any, I think it's opportunity, I think it's jealousy, you know, I think that kind of an environment kind Of breeds that like competition that goes Jealous by be on top. I wanna be on top, like you're the top girl, you have all this shit like fuck you. You know, I like my life has been shed and like, it rather than understanding the other person as a real human being.
